Datacenter Economy - More Power with Less Power:
Expanding bandwidth, processor advances, and better servers have opened the door to memory-hungry data types – all of which drive demand for storage. The information explosion has put an incredible burden on already taxed IT resources, generating increased interest in both improved hardware and management tools. Concepts such as automation, Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), virtualization, and data center consolidation have emerged, not only as means to handle data, but also as methods for reducing costs, increasing ROI, and optimizing TCO.
Enterprises have taken note: increased processing power and the information explosion have translated directly into soaring energy bills related to both IT use and datacenter cooling. According to IDC surveys, a full 28% of IT managers believe the responsibility for green IT rests with vendors, while 40% say they know little but would like to know more. Moreover, legislation increasingly requires IT vendors to implement end-of-life strategies that in turn affect customer relations and the supply chain.
IDC’s Storage, Virtualization and Green Datacenters Roadshow 2008 is designed to bring together IT professionals and decision makers from all sectors with leading industry experts and storage vendors to share experiences and discuss the latest trends in data storage and the future of information management.
