Continuous Information and Database Services Enhance business with high-impact intelligence

Feature story
IDC's CEMA Telecoms practice is currently preparing a series of studies on network managed services as a product line for telecommunications providers.  The managed services arena is currently in a land grab phase as service providers, systems integrators, outsourcing companies, and equipment vendors all try to grab pieces of this developing but potentially lucrative market category.  Since most definitions of managed services are broad and still somewhat fuzzy, many types of businesses can claim that they are best suited to providing them.
IDC Press Center
The increasing attention and buzz around unified communications (UC) is affecting how customers select telephony systems and services, according to survey results from the fifth annual Enterprise VoIP Survey conducted by IDC in conjunction with InfoWorld magazine. Advanced Telecommunications Computer Architecture (ATCA) is a key technology that continues to impact how next-generation telecommunications equipment is developed by server vendors, system integrators, and network equipment providers (NEPs). Despite some hurdles, IDC believes the xTCA market – which also includes the microTCA form factor – is on track to reach $2.65 billion in 2013. The worldwide mobile phone industry felt the impact of the global financial crisis in the third quarter of 2008 (3Q08) as total handset shipments were down significantly over previous quarters. Mobile phone manufacturers shipped a total of 299.0 million handsets in 3Q08, up 3.2% from last year, and down -0.4% over 2Q08. The third quarter of the year has historically been a ramp-up quarter as manufacturers load their sales channels with handsets in preparation for the holiday season, producing year-over-year growth rates as high as 20% as a result. This year has not witnessed a similar ramp up, largely due to the current economic situation.
IDC CEMA Communications Studies
