Mobile Enterprise Deployment to Realise Cost Savings, Says IDC

LONDON, August 2, 2007 — To realise the true potential offered by mobile working, organisations must move towards delivering secure access to real-time, line-of-business applications. With a plethora of new devices, software and innovations coming to market the mobile workspace is constantly evolving. However, mobile and wireless technologies are notoriously averse to standardisation — users consistently experience technology fragmentation, interoperability issues and rapid obsolescence.

IDC predicts that in 2008 businesses will be focused on regaining control over mobility developments — having a clear vision as to how solutions should evolve to achieve flexibility, ease of use and cost savings. "Although a mobile enterprise deployment will require some up-front investment, most companies expect that, over time, the benefits will outweigh expenses, and eventually cost savings will be realised," said Stacy Sudan, research analyst, Mobile Enterprise Software.

A survey conducted at IDC's 2006 Mobility Conference identified that the combined IT spend of delegates was in excess of £300 million, with the average expenditure being £81 million; 95% of delegates surveyed indicated that their mobile budgets would increase, on average by 40.3% in 2007; respondents' key priorities beyond providing email access were customer relationship management, sales force and field force automation, and the implementation of additional security measures such as authentication and digital signatures.

With this in mind, IDC is pleased to announce that its annual Mobile Enterprise conference will be taking place in London on November 29, 2007. This one-day conference will feature end-user case studies providing real-world perspectives, as well as advice and best practice regarding mobility adoption and evaluation from IDC analysts and industry experts. The programme will feature leading-edge topics such as:

* Mobile Business 2.0 — The Next Generation * Voice Mobility in a Central Architecture * Securing the Mobile Infrastructure * 3G, 4G, WiFi and WiMax — Shaping the Future of Wireless Mobility * Effective Device Management to Optimise Cost Efficiency

Every year, IDC's Mobile Enterprise conference attracts between 130 and 150 senior IT decision makers from major enterprises in the UK.
